Nigerians disappointed by Grammys losses for Davido, Burna Boy
A Shocking Defeat at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards
So, something really surprising happened at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles. Nigerian music sensations like Davido and Burna Boy, who were nominated for awards, unfortunately didn’t win in any of their categories. It’s a bummer!
Disappointment for Nigerian Artists
Not only Davido and Burna Boy, but three other Nigerian artists named Ayra Starr, Olamide, and Asake also didn’t win any awards. It’s a tough break for them.
Missed Opportunities for Burna Boy and Davido
Burna Boy had four nominations this year, but he didn’t win any of them. He was nominated for Best Melodic Rap Performance, Best Global Music Performance, Best African Music Performance, and Best Global Music Album. Davido, on the other hand, had his first nominations for Best Global Music Album, Best African Music Performance, and Best Global Music Performance, but he didn’t win either.
No Luck for Asake, Olamide, and Ayra Starr
Asake and Olamide’s Amapiano song and Ayra Starr’s Rush song also didn’t win in their nominated categories. It’s a shame because they all worked really hard.
Disappointment and Frustration
As you can imagine, fans and the Nigerian music community are feeling really disappointed and frustrated. They took to social media to express their sadness and support for their favorite stars.
Other Winners at the Grammys
While Nigerian artists didn’t win, South Africa’s Tyla won the Best African Music Performance category with her song “Water.” In the Best Global Music Album category, an Indian band called Shakti won with their album “This Moment.”
Fans Express Their Frustration on Social Media
On Twitter, the hashtag #GrammySnubNaija started trending. Fans used it to share their frustration and disappointment. One user tweeted, “I can’t believe what I just witnessed. All our hopes were dashed in one night. Davido and Burna Boy deserved better.” Another user shared a meme of a shocked face and wrote, “Me watching the Grammys realizing they snubbed our Nigerian kings. #ShameOnGrammys.”
