The MTN Group made this promise during a visit to Cotonou, the capital of Benin. They even had a meeting with the President of Benin, His Excellency President Patrice Talon. Talk about a big deal!

During the meeting, important people from the MTN Group, like their President and CEO Ralph Mupita, discussed their plans. They also talked about building a fancy new office for their subsidiary, MTN Benin. MTN is already present in 19 different countries and has around 292 million subscribers. They even tested their 5G services in Benin and found out that it has great potential. So, they want to explore this opportunity and see how it can benefit both them and Benin.

We are grateful for the warm reception received in Benin, where we have trialed 5G services and see opportunities to progress this.” Wow, that’s some serious commitment!

He also mentioned that they want to help the young people of Benin by providing them with better opportunities and skills. They want to work together with the government and other important people to make this happen. How awesome is that?

The President of Benin thanked the MTN delegation for their commitment and is excited about future collaborations. MTN Benin, which has around eight million subscribers, is celebrating its 25th anniversary, so this investment is like a birthday gift!

Similar Commitment in Nigeria

But wait, there’s more! Last year, the MTN Group made a similar commitment to Nigeria. They announced plans to invest a whopping $3.5 billion in the Nigerian economy over the next few years. The Chairman of MTN Group, Mcebisi Jonas, shared this exciting news. They want to become a pan-African company and focus more on Africa, especially Nigeria, which gives them the highest returns on investment.

During a meeting at the State House in Abuja, Jonas revealed their big investment plan. They even promised to bring in other investors with about $1.5 trillion to invest in Nigeria and other African countries. Talk about a game-changer!
