A Nigerian actress named Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin has gotten herself into some trouble. She has been convicted and sentenced to six months in jail for doing something really silly with the new Naira notes at a party in Lagos. Let’s find out more!

The Conviction

So, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) shared a statement about this incident. They said that Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin was found guilty by Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos. The court said that she did something wrong with the Naira notes at a social event. She was charged with two crimes, but she initially said she was not guilty.

What Did She Do?

Okay, let’s talk about what exactly Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin did. The court said that on January 28, 2023, at a place called Monarch Event Centre in Lekki, Lagos, she was dancing at a party. But while dancing, she messed around with N100,000.00 (that’s a lot of money!) that was issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria. She sprayed the money around during the party, which is not allowed. This is against the law, according to the Central Bank Act of 2007.

The Guilty Plea

Now, here’s an interesting twist. When the court hearing continued, Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin changed her plea from “not guilty” to “guilty”. Why do you think she did that? Well, it’s because there was a lot of evidence against her. So, she admitted that she did something wrong.

The Sentencing

After Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin admitted her guilt, Justice Aneke gave his judgment. He sentenced her to six months in jail, starting from that day. But there was also another option. She could pay a fine of N300,000 into the government’s account instead of going to jail. It’s up to her to decide what she wants to do.

The agency said that this is also against the law and can lead to imprisonment or fines.
