FG Directs Chevron Resolution

The Problem

There is a disagreement between Chevron Nigeria Limited and the Ugbororo, Ugbegugun, and Dembele communities in Delta State. The dispute is about the name and composition of the Host Communities Trust Fund.

The Government’s Order

The Federal Government has stepped in and ordered Chevron to solve the problem with the communities. They want both parties to keep the peace while they work on finding a solution. The government is determined to make sure things are done correctly and promptly.

The Meeting

A meeting was held at the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission in Abuja. The Chief Executive of the commission, Gbenga Komolafe, directed Chevron to resolve the matter within two weeks. He made it clear that everyone involved must follow the law.

What Needs to Happen

Komolafe gave some instructions to Chevron. They need to have meetings with the communities to discuss and decide on the name and structure of the trust fund. They also need to reorganize the Board of Trustees according to the commission’s previous directive.

The Process

The whole process will be supervised by the Warri Regional Office of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission. They expect everything to be finished and a report to be submitted within two weeks.
