Secretary Austin’s Hospitalization

Last Monday, U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin was admitted to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. The Pentagon press secretary, Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder explained that Austin had complications from an elective medical procedure. However, the exact details of the procedure and Austin’s condition have not been disclosed.

Austin’s Elective Medical Procedure

According to Fox News, Austin had an elective medical procedure at Walter Reed on December 22, 2023. He was on leave at the time and returned home the next day. Everything seemed fine until January 1, when Austin started experiencing severe pain and had to be taken back to Walter Reed.

Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Stay

Upon his return to Walter Reed, Austin was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Ryder explained that this decision was made to ensure immediate access to medical care. However, Austin has remained in the ICU due to privacy concerns and limited hospital space.

Austin’s Recovery

Despite his hospitalization, Austin has been actively involved in his duties. On Friday, he resumed his responsibilities and has been receiving operational updates. Ryder stated that Austin is recovering well and is in good spirits.
