President Muhammadu Buhari finally addresses Nigerians
After 48hours of killings and brutal massacre at Lekki toll gate and other areas, President Muhammadu Buhari has finally addressed Nigerians on a live broadcast concerning pressing issues on the #ENDSARS protest.
At exactly 7pm yesterday, 22nd of October, 2020, The President talked about the demands and agitations of the protesters.
In his speech, Buhari agrees that the protest started peacefully and was genuine. However, He sent strong warnings to hoodlums who has turned the table of the peaceful protests into looting violently in the name of the #ENDSARS.
The president included that a citizen’s right to protest never includes disturbance of other easygoing citizens who go about their daily activities. He furthermore added that the youths’ 5 of 5 demands has been accepted and SARS has been scrapped, while he assured Nigerians that the Government is working on other demands; Extensive police reforms inclusive.
However, He stated that all killings and looting that took place in the name of the #ENDSARS protest were not necessary but so painful.
He added that 75 billion naira has been created by the Government to provide opportunities for the youths, and that the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) survival fund were created through the means of paying 3-month salaries of the staffs of 100,000 micro, small and medium enterprises, paying for the registration of 250,000 businesses at the corporate affairs commission, Giving a grant of 30,000 to 100,000 artisans and guaranteeing market for the products of traders.
Moreover, The National salaries, Income and wages commission has been directed to expedite action on the finalization of the new salary structure of members of the police force.
In addition, The Buhari administration has come up with a new salary structure and other incentives for our teachers in order to underscore the importance of education in preparing the youths for the future.
Finally, Buhari has called on the youths to disengage themselves from the razz protests and engage the Government in finding solutions constructively.
