Port Harcourt Refinery is Almost Ready to Start!

Test Run Completion

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) has some great news for us! They recently announced that the test runs at the Port Harcourt refinery will be finished this month. This is a big step towards getting the refinery up and running again after being closed for five years.

What’s Next?

Once the testing is done, the refinery will be ready to operate efficiently. This means that it will start refining 60,000 barrels of crude oil every day. The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, said that the first phase of the refinery was completed on December 20, 2023. After the Christmas break, the production of refined products will begin.

Benefits for Nigeria

When the Port Harcourt refinery and the Dangote Refinery, which is also starting this year, are fully functional, it will help our country a lot. These refineries will reduce the pressure on our foreign exchange and make it easier for us to get the products we need. While the cost of refined products may go down, experts say that it won’t lead to a massive drop in prices.
