Igbo People’s Acceptance of Tinubu as President

The President-General of Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, recently stated that the Igbo people in Nigeria have accepted President Bola Tinubu as the constitutionally elected President of the country. He made this statement during an interview with Arise Television on Sunday.

Appeal for the Release of Nnamdi Kanu

Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu also appealed for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the deposed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). He emphasized that Kanu’s continuous detention is “unconstitutional” and called for a referendum to support self-determination, which is legal according to United Nations laws and the Africa Union Charter.

Reasons for Supporting Tinubu and Kanu’s Release

Iwuanyanwu consulted with other Igbo people, and they all agreed that there was no valid reason for Nnamdi Kanu’s incarceration. They believe that his release would benefit Nigeria and help security agencies identify criminals from honest and dedicated Nigerians. Criminals take advantage of Kanu’s detention to commit crimes in the southeast region.

Impact of Sit-at-Home Order

Iwuanyanwu highlighted the negative effects of the sit-at-home order on businesses and the people in Igbo land. He stressed that releasing Nnamdi Kanu would restore normalcy and alleviate the hardships faced by the community.

Appeal to the President

As a leader of the Igbo people, Iwuanyanwu expressed his commitment to seeing Nnamdi Kanu released. He has appealed to President Bola Tinubu and sought an appointment to discuss the issue with him. Iwuanyanwu believes that the president will listen to their concerns and take action.

Tinubu’s Role in Addressing the Problem

Iwuanyanwu stated that Igbos in all states of Nigeria have accepted Tinubu as their president and pledged their support to him. However, they also expect Tinubu to address the problem they are facing in the southeast region.

Supreme Court Verdict and Appeal to the President

Iwuanyanwu mentioned that the recent Supreme Court verdict on Nnamdi Kanu’s terrorism trial does not bother them. Their appeal was directed towards President Tinubu, as they believe that if all Igbos are united in their request, there must be merit to it. They also highlighted that Kanu has openly denounced criminal activities in the name of his detention.
