Navy intercepts and destroys the boat

The Nigerian Navy recently intercepted and destroyed a boat that was transporting drums of illegally refined Automated Gas Oil. This operation took place in the Bonny Island channel in Rivers State.

Coordinated effort by the Navy

A top official from the Navy in Bonny revealed that the boat was apprehended off the Bonny River. The diesel-laden boat was then destroyed by the men of the Forward Operating Base, Bonny. Approximately 150,000 liters of the illegal product were estimated to have been destroyed.

Cracking down on criminal activities

The recent efforts by the Navy were in response to the Chief of Naval Staff’s call to eliminate criminal activities in the maritime domain. The Flag Officer Commanding, Eastern Naval Command, also declared operations to combat crimes, particularly those related to crude oil theft. These crimes have been contributing to the recent increase in crude oil production.
